Scott Martin possesses both the education and research expertise in both the Sciences and the Arts, studying both Music Composition at the Peabody Conservatory, and Electrical and Audio Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He also holds a Doctorate from the University of Maryland in College Park.
Dr. Martin is the Founding Director of the Computer Game Design Program at George Mason University, the fastest growing degree program at Mason, and in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The program includes an undergraduate BFA degree, a pending graduate M.A. degree (2014), several minors, a certificate and summer program, a study abroad program in Scotland and South Korea, and the Serious Games Institute, the applied research arm of the Computer Game Design Program at Mason and in partnership with the University of Coventry, UK.
Simultaneously, Dr. Martin has been the Assistant Dean of Technology, Research, and Institutional Advancement since 2000 at George Mason University. As Assistant Dean, Dr. Martin’s responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and managing new research and technology initiatives in the CVPA. His areas of research include interactive performance systems, serious games development for corporate and public crisis management, game design for telemedicine and teletherapy, and game education pedagogical systems and structures. Dr. Martin has helped found and sat on the boards of several for-profit and non-for profit corporations in the region including several internet marketing and sales companies, an IT business management companies, a construction management firm, and is currently on the board of the Pakistan American University, and TMG LLC in Prince William County, Virginia.
